When Sam wanted to change the tune of his career, TechSwitch led him along the path to become a tech maestro. Read on to learn more.
Ever wondered how it would feel to go from hitting the piano keys to tapping the keyboard codes?
Well now you can find out. Meet our TechSwitch maestro, Sam.
Sam harmoniously transitioned his career from a dedicated musician to a skilled tech professional through TechSwitch. His story is a captivating melody of resilience, adaptability, and the transformative power of quality guidance.
So sit back and enjoy as we dive into this upbeat symphony of career transition, striking a chord with anyone pondering a similar change, regardless of their professional background.
From music to coding
Sam was an accomplished musician, spending long hours every day perfecting his skills at the piano.
“I got a scholarship to Trinity College of Music in Greenwich and went there when I was 18, where I completed a four-year degree. And then for about six years, I was a professional jazz pianist in London.”
Despite a successful career, Sam sought out a new challenge and decided to make a career switch. Seeing a similarity between the logic and creativity of music and coding, he decided that the tech industry might be the place for him:
“The analogy that I've since created is that with music, you are creating something very beautiful and makes a lot of sense. And in code, it's the same.”
That was when Sam discovered TechSwitch. After enquiring and getting the ball rolling, Sam embarked on a journey into the tech industry, starting with his coding bootcamp.
The TechSwitch experience
TechSwitch provided Sam with a robust foundational understanding of full-stack development. Sam directly credits the course for his progress, saying:
“They really understand the limits of what 12 weeks can do for you. You're not going to become a TypeScript expert in 12 weeks, forget it. And that's why they didn't just focus on languages as such, but more on the high level. What you are doing when you’re writing code, asking the right questions, and understanding how to approach things in the right way.”
After completing the 12-week course, Sam felt he had the knowledge necessary to get started, but still felt a certain level of stress. The uncertainty of making the leap of faith into another industry and not knowing what was going to happen gave him pause for thought.
But with the help of TechSwitch, Sam was able to secure a placement at Novata within three weeks of completing the course – and it would be fair to say that things are going well:
“It’s been a world of excitement and opportunity… Within three months of working there, they offered me a permanent role, and I’ve recently been promoted to mid-level.”
A story of talent and discipline
Sam's journey with TechSwitch demonstrates that the value of TechSwitch’s bootcamps and teaching is more than just code, it’s about teaching the discipline and skillsets necessary to continue your learning out in the world of tech.
As he put it:
"You can fall into a trap of thinking that bootcamp is the thing that gets you the job, but really the best bootcamp will be the one that unleashes the individual and their potential. Because at the end of the day, it's not a bootcamp that gets you a job. It's you, isn't it?"
Sam's story shows that TechSwitch is an excellent choice for anyone out there who is seeking a career switch into the tech industry, and for employers looking to hire resourceful, self-motivated, and adaptable candidates with unique backgrounds.
“I think TechSwitch really does find a way to teach you how to unleash your own potential. It sounds a bit cheesy, but it's true.”
